University of the Philippines Debate Society Pandemic Era Batch 2021

Competing against national and world debaters Pep Danguilan, CJ Carlos, Bea Legazpi, Gab Pacano, and Marco Dava, etc. in my first University Debate was not easy. Most of them have had years in debate tournaments that I had no clue existed when I was in highschool. Despite that I graduated Honors in STEM in the top Science High Scool in Makati City, I knew that I was not fit to fight these debate dinos in my first university debate finals but I also knew “I could win if I do not stutter”.

All I remember was I want to get in the organization because it is THE University of the Philippines Debate Society, home of the excellent rhetorical speakers of the Philippines before they became Attorneys, Senators, United Nation Ambassadors, etc. It is so surreal to think that I have been in the organization for 4 years now as an Educational Affairs member and I have bagged 3 championship titles and Best Final’s speakership awards in my novice years. I’m grateful to the way UP Debate hones our excellence and integrity in every tournaments we join.

To be the first Southern, Mindanaon Filipino undergraduate to champion in the University of the Philippines Diliman Debate Society is such a canon event in my life and it definitely “altered my biochemistry”. This is where the crossroads became a straight straightpath.

Now that I am pursuing my second degree in Electronics Communications Engineering, you might see me debate sometime in my 2nd and 3rd year in Engineering.
